Amazing Internet Adventures! Chapter 2: At the Gates of Pulchritude

Having been trapped the Labyrinth of the Arch-Fiend, Mediocrity, Lauby manages to escape via the secret exit that opens up beneath the Isle of Deadly Death. Relying only his wits and his unbelievably good luck, our hero boldly makes his way to what he thinks will be a safe haven. Unbeknownst to him, but knownst to us, he is in fact heading towards an even greater challenge as he comes upon the Gates of Pulchritude, entrance to the grand City of C’Mon.

Don't worry folks, these intros are just gonna keep getting worse.

Continuing from last time, I’m still in need of some ideas for color schemes to fit in with what I want to do for my army and, at the same time, will avoid having to order a ton of paint. Things haven’t been good so far. Dakka was an almost total waste of a small portion of my precious, precious life and it’s not yet time to throw a Hail Mary on Google.  And I'm sure as hell not going back to a forum any time soon.  Time to bring out the big guns. Time to head over to Cool Mini Or Not.

CMON is a pretty big place, so I figure I’m almost guaranteed to find something I can use. The problem is that for all the actual talent that shows up, there’s also the expected amount of garbage – mostly in the form of bad photography.  It can be pretty freaking hard to find something usable AND recreate-able.  Moreover, I know its going to be big task to dig through the insane amount of good shit on the site.

But first, I’m treated to the landing page. While CMON is a pretty diverse place in terms of what it does (it’s a gallery. NO! Its a store) and what gets posted (everything), it’s still a tad predictable. As a bastion of stereotypical fantasy art, the main page is host to any number of partial clothed fantasy lady minis. Which is totally fine, I only bring it up because its clear that the CMON people know their audience. Check this advert out:

I'm gonna... learn... to... wait... what is this DVD about again?
Since I LOLed so hard at this, I thought I’d share the fun (bags).

Moving past the insanely distracting home page and a long short peek at the store, I went about my business of trying not to ogle 28mm scale boobs. While I was ultimately successful in finding stuff here, I was unable to totally resist the appeal of naked breasts.

In the hour or two it took me to dig through the archives for some examples, I came up with an absolute ton of stuff. The painted examples of the actual models I own was a bit sparse. Once I opened up my search a bit to include ANY thing associated with a Chaos God, things got out of control. There were 98 pages of Slaanesh stuff alone, and that’s about as far as I got besides a few mildly successful searches for plaguebearers and flesh hounds.

I’m gonna have to go back for more, but check this stuff out! Oh – quick note: while I found enough stuff that it would have to be measured in ‘shit loads’, I’m only gonna show off the stuff that really got the brain juices flowing.

In honor of Monday’s rant, I’ll start off with the stuff I found that has applications for the Fiends of Slaanesh I need to do.

A dire troll with a great color palette - Sometimes it’s not the model that’s important or even how well its painted, but what you can do with a stolen color scheme.

A snakey Slaanesh thing - Same as the troll. I just like the colors on the mount.  Is a bit more soft and subtle than most things I found, so that's another cool thing it has going on.  This is also the point where I got to thinking about what to do to make my heralds unique.  But that's a whole nother post.

Some crazy daemons - the teal guy in the back with the crazy arms is the big winner here.  The models themselves are kinda blah, but the color transition on Stretch Armstrong back there is hilarious.

Another mounted Slaanesh lord  - This actually produced the biggest ‘Ah ha’ moment of the whole bunch. I had needed to figure out a way to differentiate the ‘champion’ fiends from the rest of the bunch. Now I know how – NMM scales! Booya! Bonus eye-raping pink as well.

This is just fantastic.  I had to post his one since I know so many of you want click the links.
Well, I think that’s about it for this installment. I still have plenty more treasure to share and I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s in the CMON archives. So look for more in the near future.

  2. I remember when that lady was running the table at the Golden Deamons. That ad is hilarious - kinda ironic given your previous discussion about Slaanesh fans
